Terry L. Sherwood, 64, of Excelsior, MN died peacefully on January 18 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital from complications of brain cancer. Preceded in death by mother & stepfather, Marvelle & Bill Eagle, and father & stepmother, Bill & Sal Sherwood, and brother, William J. Sherwood. He will be deeply missed by wife, Kathy; children, Jay Sherwood & Jill (Kris) Aho; in-laws, Robert and Lynn Yurecko, Mike and De Yurecko, Karen and Tim McCauley; niece, nephews and other family members; dear friend, Al Spannbauer plus many golf buddies and other good friends, and beloved pets, Corky and Tucker. He attended Marshall High School, Univ. of MN and Control Data Institute.

He started his career as a systems analyst at Chrysler and Control Data and retired as an officer, after 32 years, from SciCom Data in 2008. Terry will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a hard worker and an all around "good guy." He was an always proud Marine (Semper Fi) and an avid golfer. He enjoyed many sports and had a lifelong passion for cars and rock & roll. He was a longtime member of Chevy's Best Car Club and MSRA. The family would like to thank his doctors and are grateful to all the caring staff at Abbott Northwestern and Sister Kenny.

Russell W. Lindquist, Born, Mankato, MN, March 5, 1921; died, Minnetonka, MN, January 24, 2010 at the age of 88. Preceded in death by wife, Joan Swanson Lind- quist: parents, Arthur and Mirelda Lindquist: stepdaughter, Kathleen Enstad Fisher and grandson, Danny Lindquist. Survived by wife, Avis Enstad Lindquist; child- ren, Brian Lindquist (Lois), Jill Hanson (Daniel), Mark Lindquist (Mary); stepsons, Bruce Enstad (Mary Ann), Paul Enstad; 4 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 7 step great- grandchildren. Russell graduated from Roosevelt High School in South Minneapolis in the spring of 1939, received his BSL degree from the University of Minnesota in 1943 and his LLB degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1945.

He served in the U.S. Naval Air Force from May 1942 through April 1943, shuttling between his parents's home in South Minneapolis and the Naval Air Base on the north end of Wold- Chamberlain Airport in South Minneapolis. He often said that one of the saddest days of his life was the day he was told he was being discharged from the Service as a result of a non-military related injury His sadness flowed, not from feelings of self-patriotism, but from the fact that all of his friends were headed in one direction and he was headed in the opposite direction. Russell has always been over-supplied with energy. He has put that energy into the practice of law at Dorsey & Whitney law firm (primarily commercial and industrial real estate), into camping, hiking, sailing and traveling throughout the world, and into charitable service. Over the years his efforts have not always been aimed at the same charity, and have included Boy Scouts of America- Viking Council, the Courage Center, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Salvation Army, Park-Nicollet Clinic, Memorial Blood Bank, Bethune School volunteer reading program, and his then current church.

Russ has frequently been quoted as saying "If in one form or another, I don't receive at least a 35% return on an investment I have made in a charity, whether in cash or service, I feel I have failed to reach my goal." Though he never achieved his lifetime goal, that of being a commercial airline pilot, he did, at age 50, succeed in soloing a small Cessna. Russell has always considered himself one of the luckiest men alive. He has enjoyed an abundance of good friends and ideal working conditions and challenges.

Loren R. Wuttke, Age 75 of Eden Prairie, passed away after an exhaustive five-year battle with bone marrow cancer (multiple myeloma). Studied economics at U of Minnesota. Burlington Northern Railroad's statistician for ten years. First graduate of The Graduate Realtors Institute. Founded and operated a real estate brokerage, construction and land development company for 45 years. He was proud of his association with the Men and Women of Note; bass singer with The Minneapolis Commodores Barbershop Chorus serving as Honorary Lifetime member of the Board. Stephen Spaulding Morse, age 65, of Minnetonka, left our world on January 16, 2010, after an eight year battle with cancer; he is at peace and painfree. An exceptional husband, father, grandfather, friend, poet, and educator devoted to his family, teaching, and writing. Survived by wife, Judy L. Brekke; son, Raymond T.B (Brianna) Morse; granddaughters, Autumn and Willow Morse; sisters, Kate (John) Wheeler and Kris (Steve) Bledsoe. Born in Oakland, CA, he received degrees in English from California State University-Hayward and in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. Studied with Robert Creeley, George Cuomo, Charles Simic, and Thom Gunn. Spent his teenage years in Oregon working as a cowboy on his father's cattle ranch.

A writer known throughout the world for his poetry and literary ideology. Published, with wife Judy, a small press poetry magazine, JUICE; now an on-line publication. Family always was his first love giving him balance; graciously sharing his many talents of writing, playing music, gardening, raising chickens, and other wonderful gifts with his granddaughters.

Eloise Breitholtz Anderson,  Breitholtz age 93, of Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka, peacefully went to be with the Lord Jan. 21, 2010. Eloise was born to Magnus and Stella Breitholtz in Cokato, MN. She was married to Donald Anderson for 69 years. After living in Cokato and Harris, Iowa they settled in Deephaven, MN living there for 50 years. Eloise was vary active in her church, Minnetonka Baptist, currently Ridgewood Church. She also attended BSF for many years.

As a devoted Christian woman, Eloise selflessly opened her heart and house to family and other fellow Christians through out her lifetime. Survived by husband Donald L. Jason Ronald Swain, died at the age of 39 Thursday, January 14, after a lifetime of living gracefully with cystic fibrosis, the last four with transplanted lungs. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Kay Swain, in 2004 and is survived by his father, Ron Swain and stepmother Marty Swain of Excelsior; brother Eric Swain and his partner Rachel Benton, nephews Aidan and Dylan Swain, and niece Olivia Swain of Bedford, England; stepbrother Nick Heiberg of Minnetonka; step- sister Carrie Heiberg of Excelsior; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Jason attended the Chaska schools and graduated from the University of Minnesota, where he majored in music composition and minored in classical guitar. His love of music was reflected in his participation in numerous bands, such as Cornerstone, Micky Mao, and Thumb; his performances in numerous concerts, churches, and other venues; and his extensive vinyl record collection. His day jobs included work at Claire Givens Violins in Minneapolis in the 1990s, technical work with Pillar Applications Group in the early 2000s, and most recently work at Hymie's Vintage Records in Minneapolis as well as computer consulting. The family offers deep thanks and respect to Jason's cystic fibrosis and transplant teams as well as the numerous nurses, therapists, and others at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, particularly those on "6B," for their skilled care and treasured friendships over many years.

Elaine Marie (nee Nelson) Hoke, June 24, 1950 - January 13, 2010 Elaine will always be remembered as a caring and generous daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and wife. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; her two dear, precious children, Laura and David; her one and only and much adored grandson, Brenden; her beautiful mother, Valborg Nelson; her sister, Lois (David) Nelson Petricka; her brothers, Vernon (Cherie) and Paul (Lynda) Nelson; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her pioneering Norwegian grandparents, her special Uncle Arthur Holte, and angelic nephew, Eric Nelson in infancy, and her father, Elmo Nelson.

Elaine grew up on the family farm in Clay County, MN. She loved the natural world, and we'll see her running carefree forever over her dad's dew-sparkled lawn and beside her mother's beautiful flower gardens, her lovely hair dancing in the spring breeze. After graduating from the Ulen schools, she, like her bold, sea-faring ancestors, courageously set out for the Twin Cities in 1968 to pursue her cherished goal of becoming a nurse. She earned an RN from Augsburg College and the old Lutheran Deaconess Nursing Intern Program. For almost forty years, she was first a staff and then a charge nurse at Lutheran Deaconess, Fairview Riverside, and the Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center, specializing throughout her career in cardiac care.

Elaine passed away suddenly in our home Wednesday morning before we had a chance to say good-bye. She nurtured our dear children with unfailing love and sacrifice through their every disappointment, misfortune and illness, and lovingly supported them in all their hopes and dreams until her very last day. Our dear Elaine will be with us always through all time and eternity. We ask how could we ever leave you, "your hair streaked with sunlight", and sparkling blue eyes filled our lives with love and joy. Elaine will always be there in every golden sunrise and every radiant rainbow in the heavens of God's miraculous and infinite universe. For whole centuries of folly, noise and sin! Ruth May "Ruthie" Malone, (nee Johnson) age 81 of Minnetonka, passed away early on January 2, 2010 after 15 months of health issues. You will be happy to know that she was feeling and looking wonderful and was with her family on Christmas Eve and Day. We will always cherish those last memories, hugs and laughs with her. Ruthie was born on May 12, 1928 and grew up in Mpls. She attended Roosevelt High School.

She married Pierce Malone and they spent 42 wonderful years together. She was fierce in her love and devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a generous and energetic caretaker, whether it be a family member or friend. Of all her past times, she loved golf and going up to the cabin most. Ardith Borry, of Plymouth, passed on December 30, 2009, Ardie was greeted in heaven by Jesus and many family and friends. She was preceded in death by John, her husband of 61 years, sister Ruby Grinley, and brothers Gorman and Ward Thompson. She is survived by son Steven and girlfriend LouAnn Ireland , daughter Linda and husband Kevin Hausmann, four nieces, and many other special relatives. Ardie grew up in Thief River Falls , MN , attended business college, and worked at the Bureau of Engraving.

In 1945 she married John Borry, her high-school sweetheart. Ardie's number-one priority was being the world's best wife and mother. And she was! In addition, she was very active at St. John's Lutheran Church for 45 years, serving in many capacities including congregational president. She shared her wisdom, energy, and leadership skills in her volunteer work, which included being a literacy tutor and working with the Arboretum, Meals on Wheels, AFS, and countless other organizations. She also found great joy in music and gardening. In her later years she and John had a fun life, splitting their time between their home in Minnesota and a condo in Naples , Florida . Ardie spent her last three years in the independent living section of SummerWood of Plymouth where she appreciated the caring staff and her many friends. The word that best describes Ardie is LOVE. She loved her Lord, her family, and her many, many friends. She lived out that love with her giving nature, encouragement, kindness, and caring phone calls. Everyone she touched regarded her as a very special friend. We'll all miss her so much.

James Holland, age 45, and his son, Jude Patrick Holland, age 4, died on November 8, 2009, due to injuries suffered in a car accident. Jim was born on May 13, 1964, to John and Florence (Virant) Holland in Aurora, MN. He graduated from Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School in 1982, and went on to graduate from Mankato State University with a degree in finance. Jim was employed as a National Sales Manager with Acer Electronics. He was a sports enthusiast, and especially loved to golf, but his true pride and joy was his family. Jim never missed an opportunity to express his love for them, or to show his friends how much they meant to him.

Jim and Christine Olson were united in marriage on September 14, 2002, and they made their home in Chanhassen, MN. They were blessed with the precious gift of their son, Jude Patrick, on August 23, 2005. Jude attended the Little Saints preschool in Chanhassen. He loved to spend time with his friends and cousins. Jude touched many lives in his short time here, and he brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Holland, a sister, Linda (Jim) Holland-Broberg, and a brother, Charles Holland. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine; his father, John L. Holland, Carroll, IA; and his brothers, John D. Holland, Dundas, MN and Patrick (Laurel) Holland, Savage, MN.

Dolores H. Schroeder, Age 87, of Deerfield Beach, FL and Eden Prairie, MN. Dolores entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 22, 2009, after a valiant struggle with multiple health issues. She passed away surrounded by her family and is now resting peacefully in His arms. Born on May 8, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, she loved the Windy City and all of its beauty and attractions.

Dolores is survived by Robert, her best friend and beloved husband of 62 years; children, Mary Lou, Lori, Scott and their life companions; grandchildren, Lisa, Emily, Jeff, Marla, and Christina; siblings, Andrew Holsman, Virginia Beach, VA, and Lucille Balasa, Chicago, IL; nephew, Don Balasa, and niece, Margaret Ann MacMartin and their families. She was preceded in death by parents, Margaret and Gustav Holsman and nephew, Richard Balasa. Dolores lived her life as a talented homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

The love of the Lord that she shared with her family was a daily source of comfort and inspiration. She enjoyed Bible Study, spending time with her family, cooking, music, and Saturday evenings at St. Henry's Church dancing the night away with her Bob. She enjoyed volunteering with the Boca Raton Pops Orchestra, the Debbie Rand Auxiliary of the Boca Raton Community Hospital, and at Resurrection Life Church. Her style and elegance in her homes and attire were an outward expression of her spirit and inner beauty. Dolores loved the beauty of nature and took great delight with the dogs that accompanied her in her life's journey. Great thanks to the caring hospital and hospice staff at Methodist Hospital and to Pastors Bill and Sharon Predovich at Resurrection Life Church in Eden Prairie.

Her children and husband would especially like to thank Mom's special friend and guardian angel, Aimee, for her tireless commitment to Mom's physical and spiritual well-being. The family extends its deepest and heartfelt gratitude to Mary Lou's husband, Dr. Robert W. Johnson, who provided exceptional support, care, understanding, and love. Sincere thanks to Jane Reynolds who provided unconditional love and good will. Lisa Ann (Pfeffer) Roden, Age 50 of Excelsior, born on September 18, 1958, died in a bicycle accident on August 28, 2009. Lisa is survived by loving husband of 27 years Dan Roden; children, Michael (23), Sarah (21), James (15) and Emma (12); parents, Herbert and Patricia Pfeffer of Excelsior; brothers, Steve (Barb) of Maple Grove, Jay (Mary) of Arizona, and Mark of Maple Grove; in-laws, Bob and Lorraine Roden of Long Lake. She was a speech therapist at Scenic Heights Elementary School in the Minnetonka School District. Lisa was active in the Excelsior Craft Club, Mother / Daughter Book Club, Christian Women's Book Club, and many walking groups.

She surrounded herself with many circles of friends. She served as secretary of Boy Scout Troop 424. She loved spending time on Lake Minnetonka with her family and dogs. Lisa was an amazing mother, sister and daughter. She was loved by the whole community for her giving and compassionate spirit.

Susannah M. Anderson, Of Sunrise of Minnetonka, formerly of Becketwood and S.E. Mpls. Age 93. Preceded in death by parents Sutcliff and Hilda Horsfall and her beloved husband of 52 years, Elton E. Anderson. Susannah managed the U of M St. Paul Bookstore from 1964 until she retired in 1979. She was an advocate to all living creatures and was outspoken against all animal unkindness. Donald Wells Miller, Age 82, formerly of Longville, MN, and Excelsior, MN, died Aug- ust 20, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, MN, after a long & courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Preceded in death by his parents, Eugene & Evelyn, and his brother, Leonard. Survived by his six children,- Cherry (Ken) Dewees, Carrie (Jim) Heyerdahl, Susan (Dennis) Harrison, Laura (Mike Azzopardi) Hammer, Joel (Barb) Miller, Amber (Jim) Bullington; 15 grandchildren and more than a dozen great-grandchildren. Donald owned and operated Miller's Excelo Bakery in Excelsior, MN, until his retirement in 1982. His mouth-watering fresh green apple pies, kolaches, caramel apples and other baked goods were savored and adored for decades by people in the Lake Minnetonka area & beyond. Donald served in the Navy during WWII and was a member of VFW Post 772 in Longville, MN. He also was an active member and leader in Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 25 years.

John R. Liberg,  age 78, of Excelsior, died peacefully on August 19, 2009 after a long battle with Crohn's disease. Kenneth Eugene Purcell, Age 80, of Indianapolis, IN and Colorado Springs, CO, passed away, July 28, 2009. Kenneth was born June 8, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Kenneth and Evelyn Purcell. Kenneth grew up in the Robbinsdale Area and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Kenneth retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after 27 years of service and later went on to own an Airborne Express franchise from which he later retired. He was a member of The Hibernians and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Kenneth was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria Jean Purcell. Born in Howard, SD on August 7, 1916 to parents, Guy and Margaret (nee Theophilus) Lower, he graduated from South Dakota State University, Brookings in 1939 with a degree in Pharmacy. He later married Marion Muriel Ritchie of Winnebago, MN on September 9, 1941, spending 59 happy years together before her death in September 2000. He is best known for co-owning Bacon Drug in Excelsior where he retired in 1989 after 50 years as a pharmacist. Legend has it that Bob was at the drug store where Mick Jaggar spoke to Jimmy Huetmacher who said to Mick, "You can't always get what you want." Hence making music history around the world. Bob took on candymaking after his wife died and he was often seen at Shorewood Senior Center passing out his fudge, an assortment of brittles and his famous pecan praline crunch. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years where he often volunteer for flag raisings and annual Turkey Trot benefit dinners at Thanksgiving. He was on a bowling team and golfed up until he was hospitalized in May for heart disease and other complications..

Besides the above, he will be missed by many relatives in South Dakota and Minnesota as well as the Smith Family of Dell Rapids who adopted Bob as their own, after he reconnected with college sweetheart Norma Smith. He is known to her family as "grand-beau". We thank them for all the happy times they shared with Bob. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, John. Bob is survived by devoted son, Gary (Valerie) Lower; loving grandsons, Christopher (Mary) Lower, Timothy Lower, and Daniel (Jamie) Lower; as well as seven great-grandchildren; loving sister, Faye "Pollywog" Knutson. Also close to his heart are nieces, Sharon (Chuck) Kapaska and Joni (Bill) Pewsey, who Marion and Bob loved as daughters; also several other nieces and nephews. A big heartfelt thank you to all the nurses, volunteers & other caregivers at N.C. Little Hospice Home who cared for our Robert, so lovingly cooked and fed us meals that went above and beyond the call of duty! James R. Jim Ryan, 66, of Deephaven, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, after a ten- month battle with melanoma. His passing was peaceful, surrounded by the people he loved most in life, his family. Born in Hibbing August 12, 1942 to Florence "Pennies" and Russell Ryan, Jim was the second of eight children. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1960 and from the University of Notre Dame in 1965. Jim married the love of his life, Colleen, in 1972. Together they raised a family of eight children. In 1965, Jim joined his father and uncles in Ryan Construction Company, founded by his grandfather James Henry. Jim started his 44-year career in the eighth grade at the family lumberyard. He worked his way through the company ranks and became CEO of Ryan Companies US, Inc. in 1989.

Jim was a humble man, strengthened by his unwavering faith in God, inspired by the goodness of others, and never lost his awe of all of life's miracles. He lived life every day guided by character, honesty, integrity and "doing the right thing." Ever thankful for the gifts he received throughout his life, Jim never stopped finding ways to give back. He was passionate about his work with the Ryan Foundation, the Minnesota Nonprofits Assistance Fund, the Minneapolis Foundation, United Way, and Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Jim loved his Alma Mater Notre Dame, and was a member of its School of Architecture Advisory Council, and a devoted supporter of the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE). Jim had a passion for hunting, sailing Banshee, and skiing in the mountains of Colorado, with family, friends and colleagues.

Jim and Colleen also shared their love of travel with their children. Jim was preceded in death by parents, Russell and Pennies; brothers, Michael, Tim, Tracy and Peter. He is survived by wife, Colleen; children, Molly (Mike) Carson, Maggie (Craig) Allen, Kate (Zach) Hegman, Tim, Nell, Dan, Sean, and Tess; and grandchildren, Trinity, Marley & Seamus Carson, and Owen, Nell & Henry Allen. Dee M.  Allar, 78, beloved wife of Donald J. Allar (deceased) and cherished mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in her Excelsior home. Kenneth P. "Ken" Donovan, age 52 of Eden Prairie passed away unexpectedly on 4-17-2009. Preceded in death by his parents William and Margaret Donovan and one brother. Survived by his wife Sue Donovan, children Lizzie and KJ Donovan, two sisters, two brothers and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ken graduated from Maple Shade High School in Maple Shade, NJ in 1974. He attended Glassboro State College and earned his Masters Degree in Education from Rutgers University. Ken met Sue in Hawaii in 1984 and were married in 1985. Ken's pride and joy was his wife and children. He spent many hours on sports fields, coaching and cheering. He found his career calling in technology recovery and business continuity. Ken was proud of his NJ roots, but we are pretty sure he secretly loved MN. We know he loved the cabin on Round Lake. Maxine Faye Zontelli  Lord, Age 87 of Christmas Lake, passed away on April 11, 2009. Preceded in death by parents, Emil Zontelli, Anna Zontelli, brother, Ted and sister, Betty, baby daughter, Mary, son, James Frank Lord "Jim" and grandson, Wayne Gordon Faris, Jr. "Way." Maxine is survived by husband, Miles Welton Lord, Sr.; daughter, Priscilla Lord Faris (Wayne Faris, Sr.), Maggie and Emma Faris; son, Miles Welton Lord, Jr. "Mick"; daughter, Virginia Lord (Richard Pollock), Jessica and Catherine Pollock; two sisters, Dolly Douglas and Carol Doshan. Maxine was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and served on the Alter Guild. She served on various corporate boards. Maxine lived a very active life as the wife of former Federal Judge Miles Lord, who served as Attorney General and U.S. Attorney for the State of Minnesota. Her wisdom and judgment was sought after by many prominent politicians. She was a valuable advisor to her sons and daughters. Maxine's greatest interest in life was the well-being of her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother of her 4 children, grandmother of her 5 grandchildren and aunt of her many nieces and nephews. She loved all of her girlfriends, especially Lola Kagol and Millie Todd. She was well cared-for in her later years by dear friends and family. Despite tremendous medical and physical challenges, Maxine demonstrated tremendous bravery and strength to those who knew and loved her. Richard Edwin "Rick" Brown,  age 55, died unexpectedly of an aneurysm on April 9, 2009. Dearly loved by his wife, Rosalee; children, Stacey Rebiskie, Bridget Brown, Shannon (Travis) Pakonen, Gina Brown and only son, Ryan Anderson; parents, Richard (Dick) W. and Marion Brown; sister, Karen (John) Hughes; nieces, nephew, best friends and in-laws, Rosa and Harry, and friends too numerous to count. Rick was a 1971 graduate of Minnetonka High School. He was an executive at Motorola until he co-founded Rasco Industries with his father. He was a golfer, pilot and photographer. He also loved playing hockey, rollerblading with the dogs and riding his Harley.

His favorite activity was sharing his Bible- based hope with others. "The meek ones themselves will possess the earth and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." Ronald Linn Bryson,  age 64, of Eden Prairie, MN, formerly Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2009 after a seven month battle with small-cell lung cancer. Ron was born April 9, 1944 to William and Nancy (Miles) Bryson of Pittsburg, PA. He spent the majority of his life in the optical business in Cape Coral, FL. After the death of his beloved Kate, Ron moved to Minnesota to be nearer to family and found that he embraced the northern climate's change of seasons. Ron loved his backyard, his fishing time, his beloved wiener dogs and his retirement part-time 'dream job' of driving SW Metro Transit bus.

Ron is survived by his devoted life partner, Kathie Radcliffe; daughter, Laura (Tom) Fahy and granddaughter Megan of Blaine, MN; daughter, Jenny Bryson, grandson Ayden and granddaughter Lauren of Fayetteville, GA; two sons, William Bryson, Ft. Myers, FL, Tyler (Noelle) Bryson and granddaughter Brianna of Cape Coral, FL; step-daughter, Katrina Sheldon of Eden Prairie, MN; sister, Sharon (Tom) Testa of Alexander, NC and seven nieces and nephews. Charles William Jr. (Bill) Briggs. Bill was born on March 23, 1934 in St. Paul, son of Charles Briggs Sr. and Lois J. Briggs, and died on March 19, 2009. He attended primary and secondary schools and graduated from St. Paul Academy. He went on to attend Standford University and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BBA. He is survived by his wife, Judy Van Nest Briggs and two brothers, Warren of Pensacola, FL and Edward of Escondido, CA. Also surviving are five children: Charles Briggs III (Kim) of Manhattan, MT; Betsy Briggs of Big Lake, MN; Fritz Van Nest (Alma) of San Antonio, TX; Karen McKay (Mark) of Minnetonka, MN; and Barbara Zadeh (Mohsen) of Independence, MN. There are 14 grandchildren. Bill was the retired Chairman of the former Anderson Cadillac.

He spent 52 years with the company. He was very active in both business and community affairs all of his life. He served as President of the Northwestern Chi Psi Educational Foundation, Rotary Club of St. Louis Park, former Golden Valley Chamber of Commerce, District Governor of District 595 Rotary International, the former Viking Council Boy Scouts of America, Many Waters BSA, Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association and Director of National Automobile Dealers Association. In addition he served on the boards of the CM Russell Museum of Great Falls, MT, Dunwoody Institute and National Auto Dealers Charitable Foundation. He held memberships and positions in several other organizations. He was an avid railroad fan and modeler. He received the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award in 1981, the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 1979 and the Silver Antelope in 1985. Memorial services to be held in late May. Ann Jostrom, of Mound, MN, died peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2009 at nearly 88 years of age. She was born in Seattle, WA on April 21, 1921 to Louis and Florence Freund and lived there until she moved to Mound, MN with her husband, Forest (Bud) following the war. They shared a lifetime together enjoying Lake Minnetonka. Ann was well-known in the custom drapery business during the years she worked at Nancy's Draperies on Casco Point. Later she continued this talent by personally designing and creating unique window treatments for many homes around the western suburbs and the lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; son, Tom; and sister, Alice. Her devoted family includes sister, Alma (Verne) Hirschi of Edmonds, WA; daughters, Susan (Jerry) Schwalbach, Kathy Barnes and Jane Delaney all of Wayzata; and son, Rick Jostrom of Mound; grand- children are Nate (Mari) Schwalbach of Portland, OR, Brian (Winsome) Schwalbach of Seattle, WA, Jacob Farnum of Seattle, WA, Casey Farnum of New York City, Anna (Ted) Hill of Orono, and Justin Bosma (Ann Bezore) of Rockford; great- grandchildren are Sam and Joe Schwalbach, Van Gallagher, Delaney Hill and Sarah Bosma. Terrance J. "Terry" Winzeler, of Excelsior. Our wonderful husband, father and soon to be grand- father gave up his 4 ½ year fight with cancer on his own terms on March 2, 2009. Terry was 62. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sue; daughters, Jenny, Libby (Lincoln Zahler), Katie (Nick Pahl); and mother, Isabelle. Preceded in death by his father, Lewis. His legacy is rich with the many friends and extended family who loved and respected him. Barbara Pond Allen, Born March 23, 1922 in Minneapolis, died February 14, 2009 in Spring Park. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth Martin Allen; grandchildren, Kelly Allen and Kenny Allen, and her brother, Robert Jackson Pond. She graduated from Washburn High School, the University of Minnesota and the New York School of Interior Design.

She and Ken were married June 1, 1945 and raised their six children in Cottagewood on Lake Minnetonka. They were charter members of St. Luke Presbyterian Church where Barbara sang for many years in the choir. They were active at the Juniper Hill Ski Club and Minnetonka Yacht Club. After retirement, Barb and Ken spent winters in Colorado where they enjoyed skiing, camping, jeeping and life in the mountains. Later winters were spent in Naples, Florida. Barbara was a member of the Minneapolis Women's Club and the League of of Women Voters and was a regular volunteer at the Abbott Hospital gift shop. Barbara's greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She supported them and cheered them on in sailing, skiing, hockey and all of their varied activites.

Ryan Thomas Richard, Born November 3, 1976, left us suddenly on January 4, 2009, in Van Nuys, California, where he had moved to chase his dreams. Minnetonka High School Class of 1996, where he wrestled, captained the soccer team, and was elected Homecoming King. Proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Harry S Truman 1997-2001, served in the Persian Gulf, and was appointed to the All-Navy soccer team. Award-winning independent film producer, actor and writer. Ryan's film "Ten Years After" took 1st place in the Universal Studios Film Festival, followed by the sequel, "Karaoke Dynamo". Ryan was attending The Groundlings School for professional actors in Los Angeles for improvisation, where he was accepted last year. He was also attending night classes to become a Journeyman Elevator Mechanic.

Ryan was a member of the IUEC Local 18 Los Angeles. He was employed by TRE Elevators in Hollywood. Ryan was not only about "taking karaoke to the next level." His adventurous spirit and positive attitude combined with his athlete's sense of timing to create side-splitting entertainment. His ability to appreciate and bring out the best in himself and those he cared for made him a sought-after companion. His empathy and observational skills made for comedic genius. He gave his all to everyone and everything.

Elloyd Alfred Hauser, Passed away on December 17, 2008 at the age of 68 in Sarasota, Florida from complications related to lung cancer. Elloyd was a strong and loving leader for our family, family business and network of friends. Faith and charitable giving were huge passions of Elloyd. We will miss his zeal for visiting with people, aiding and mentoring others, travel, golf, reading and politics - including his avid following of Fox News. He was a big dreamer and an entrepreneur at heart. Elloyd loved to laugh while enjoying the company of friends and family. Born on March 25, 1940 and raised on a farm near Raymond, Minnesota, he maintained his love for the farm throughout his life. Elloyd graduated from St. Cloud State at the early age of 20 and initially started his career in the teaching profession as an Industrial Arts teacher, eventually migrating into the business profession. As an entrepreneur for most of his life, he saw challenges as opportunities with businesses associated with fulfillment and banking services.

With the help of a close friend, he was instrumental in developing the bearer draft rebate check in the early 80s. The check concept launched him into a successful career over the past 25 years in payment processing with Solutran. Elloyd was a loving father to four children, grandfather to 13 grandchildren and has one great grandchild on the way. He is survived by his loving and devoted spouse Darlene as well as Carmen & Barry Nordstrand, Dawn & Joe Keller, Kari & Wayne Hawkins, Brad and Kathleen Hauser. We will miss his loving and caring spirit but also understand he is with his Savior and resting in peace. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd at 1 PM at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church (West Campus) at 7150 Rolling Acres Road, in Victoria, (952-470-4252). The visitation will be one hour prior. James Edward Tucker, "The best G-Man a family could ask for." Age 56, of Eden Prairie, passed into heavenly peace on Dec. 15, 2008. Born in Nashville, TN on Nov. 15, 1952 to Harold and Carol Mae (Chandler) Tucker. He died as a result of pancreatic cancer. Jim lived a full life, both professionally and personally. He proudly served our Law Enforcement Community for 31 1/2 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation until his retirement in 2003. Thereafter, he began his second career as a private investigator in his sole proprietorship, Tucker Consulting and Investigations. He also served as a consultant with Team Adam during the past two years; volunteered with the Eden Prairie Senior Center and indulged in his favorite hobby, riding his Harley, and living life to the fullest. Friend of Bill W. for seven years. Preceded in death by his parents.

Jean M. Sinnen, Age 77, of Chan- hassen, passed away peacefully December 14, 2008 after an eight month battle with cancer. Robert Paul  Blackmore, Jr. Born in Elsberry, MO, February 13, 1919, formerly of St. Louis, MO, Bradenton, FL and currently residing at Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka in Spring Park, MN. Graduated Elsberry High School in 1937. Enlisted in the United States Army on 11/14/40 while attending Washington University, St. Louis. On October 10, 1942 he married Mildred (Schroer) Blackmore. He was shipped overseas in October of 1944 and joined the 69th Infantry Division in LaHarve, France. He served with Headquarters 272nd Infantry Regiment across Germany until meeting with the Russians on the Elbe River at Targau. He served 33 years in the Army and Army Reserves retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Robert "Bob" F.  Sorenson, age 95, of Spring Park, passed on Dec 5, 2008. Born May 9, 1913 in Langdon, ND to Henry and Ethel (Lang) Sorenson. Geraldine Ruth (Tyack) McDonald,  age 83, of Tonka Bay, MN was born in Wakefield, MI on July 17, 1925. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov- ember 30, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. She has now been reunited with her husband of 55 years. Preceded in death by her husband, Angus John McDonald, Jr. formally of Ironwood, MI and her parents, Stanley & Marie (Cronk) Tyack. She and her husband took great pleasure in frequently going home to visit family and friends in Upper Michigan. She loved to correspond with friends and relatives with her frequent letters and cards. Gordon E.  Holm, Passed into God's hands at the age of 82 on Saturday, November 29. He was surrounded in love by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine, daughters, Nancy (Ron) Smith, Kathy Holm and granddaughters, Michelle and Emma. Judy Mona Schell, age 70, of Eden Prairie, MN was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 20, 1938. She died peacefully at home on November 29, 2008 after a twenty-one month battle with ovarian cancer. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Lute Mona and Marion Mona of Minneapolis. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, George; children Steve (St. Louis Park), and Kristen (Eden Prairie). Also survived by her brother Dave Mona (Linda), nephews Erik (Seattle), and Kirk (Chelsey) and Camden, (St. Paul). Judy is an honors graduate, class of 1956, Roosevelt High School, Minneapolis; attended the University of Minnesota for B.A. and M.A. degrees in English and Journalism with Phi Kappa Delta honors. She held teaching positions at Central High School, Minneapolis; Robbinsdale High School, and Richfield High School. She taught at the U. of M. School of Journalism before accepting a writing/communications position with the Eden Prairie School District. Judy became the district's coordinator of communication and initiated the annual school calendar, the internal staff newsletter, The Prairie Payday Post, and established a network of PTO officers for parent communication. Judy helped establish The Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools and served on the board of directors.

After retiring in 2004, she worked as an associate at the Eden Prairie Barnes and Noble book store, hosting several local book discussion groups. Her knowledge and love of reading books of all genres, translated to several review columns in local newspapers and newsletters. Active in church activities, she served as president of the Immanuel Lutheran congregation for four years. Judy also traveled extensively with her husband and family in the US, Canada and Mexico. In 2001, a three week trip to Norway was highlighted when she located her grandfather's farm and the church where her grandmother was confirmed. Evelyn (Hillman) Gerling,  Passed away on November 26, 2008. She was born October 1, 1918 at home near Welcome, Minnesota to William and Pauline (Genrich) Hillman and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1936. Anda Christensen, Age 65, of Orono, died November 26 at home. Born in the Philippines as Kwong Meow Kim, she was the daughter of the late Kwong Yee Ten and Wong Gan. Shirley Warren (Shores) Knight,  Age 86, was born in Duluth MN and died in Spring Park, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Philip Knight Sr. She was a longtime White Bear Lake and Stillwater area resident. She attended the University of Minnesota and served as the president of the Pan-Hellenic Society. Majoring in Kinesiology, her college career was interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. She married Col Robert P. Knight in St. Louis in 1940 and accompanied him to Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama and spent the war years in Presque Isle, Maine. Returning to Minnesota after the war she raised three children and worked part time for the JC Penny Company in Maplewood, MN. She was an active member of the Pumpkin Club of White Bear Lake, the Bald Eagle Women's Club and a legacy member of the Primrose Club in Stillwater, MN.

She was also a member of both St. John's in the Wilderness Episcopal and St. Andrew's Lutheran Churches. She was active in the Cursillo movement and a regular volunteer at the St. Andrews Care Center. Preceded in death by her parents, Muriel (Dee Dee) Ebert Shores and Marshall Fairfield Shores of Stillwater, MN. She is survived by her sister, Beverly Andrews of Oakdale, MN; three children, daughter, Katie (Ken) Searl of Wayzata, MN and sons, Robert P. Michael J. Pohlen, Age 71. Died October 19, 2008 at his beloved lake home in St. Croix Falls, WI. He was born in Linn Grove Iowa on December 17, 1936 to Joseph and Frances Pohlen. Mike graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1958. In June 1958, he married Laurie Ahlers, the love of his life, in Remsen, Iowa. He was commissioned in the US Air Force in 1958 and retired as a Colonel from the Air Force Reserves in 1988. He settled in Minnesota in 1965 and began working for Rosemount Engineering. He became a financial advisor in 1970 and was most recently Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley. Mike was known for his contagious smile and generous heart: he made time for everyone and created connections with everyone he met. Mike was a devout Catholic with a strong commitment to the parishes to which he belonged: Immaculate Heart of Mary, Minnetonka; St. Hubert's, Chanhassen; and Our Lady of the Lakes, Balsam Lake, WI. Mike was actively involved with numerous organizations including Serra Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Paul Seminary, St. John Vianney Seminary, Oblate Partnership, NET Ministries, Total LifeCare Centers, and several Catholic Schools. Mike and Laurie loved to travel, visiting countries all over the world and touching every continent.

He was a wonderful family man, who relished spending time with his wife, siblings, children and grandchildren. For their 50th Anniversary in June, all 32 members of their immediate family joined Mike and Laurie on an Alaskan cruise. Mike is survived by his wife, Laurie; his children, Larry (Judy), Maureen (Gary) Gallucci, Cathy (Pete) Bergen, David (Amy), Steve (Chris), Bill (Caytie), Tony (Esther); and 16 grandchildren, Mike, Bob, Joe, Katie, Elizabeth, Sarah, Vicky, Matthew, Chris, Olivia, Annie, Theo, Alli, Brendan, Liam, and Quin. John T. Graves, Age 81 of Shorewood. Beloved husband, father and grand- father, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2008. He and Betty, his wife of 60 years, initially made their home in Westport Connecticut, raising two children, and enjoying sailing, skiing and being with their wonderful friends. They later moved to Belle Meade, NJ where John continued to work and first experienced the joys of retirement. Early in his career, John traveled extensively while earning his living in chemical engineering sales. In retirement, he was an avid golfer, square dancer and round dancer. After moving from NJ, John and Betty spent winters in Mesa, Arizona and summers in Shorewood, MN. For the past 20 years, he volunteered at the Minnesota Zoo where he especially enjoyed interacting with zoo visitors. John will be forever remembered by all his friends and family for his wit and laughter. Irma Mazzitelli, age 92, formerly of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, died October 8th, at Presbyterian Homes On Lake Minnetonka, Spring Park, MN. Irma was born in Virginia, MN and was an elementary school teacher until her marriage to Joseph Mazzitelli in 1947. Joe and Irma owned and operated the Crookston Surplus Store in the Red River Valley where they raised their four children. Irma will be remembered as a talented artist, writer and life-long learner. She had a deep appreciation for the arts and nature.

She will be forever honored by her family and friends as a kind and gentlewoman who lived an enriched and happy life. "Les" Leslie R. Walstrom,  Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sept 24 at the age of 81. Jeb Lohr LeSueur,  age 28, of Deephaven, returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father Sunday afternoon, September 14, with his family around him. Alice Ellen Rogers,  age 86, of Mound, died on Sept. 13 in Lecanto, FL at Hospice House. While visiting family in Florida, Alice developed pneumonia on July 27 and then developed complications. She was a longtime resident of Mound (more than 60 years). Alice was a member of the Mound Fire Dept. Auxiliary and also of the American Legion and the VFW. Kathleen H. Pletsch, (Hassett) age 75 of Mound, MN and Barra de Navidad, MX. Born Dec. 16, 1932 in St. Paul, died peacefully on Sept. 3, 2008 surrounded by her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Walter Jalmer Johnson, Jr. Age 88, of Minnetonka, our beloved husband, father and Papa, passed at his home on Aug. 9, 2008. He was born to Walter and Winnifred (O'Brien) John- son on Sept. 5, 1919, in Bowman, N.D. Walter graduated from the Univ. of Missouri's School of Journalism in 1941 and became a sports writer for the Superior Telegram of Superior, Wisc. He then moved to the Duluth Herald Tribune. In 1943, he married Phyllis (Penny) Lorraine Haberman in Mpls.

After a brief career move to the Omaha World Herald, he joined the Minneapolis Star as a staff reporter and feature writer. After a few years, he joined the editorial writing staff. He received numerous journalistic honors, including The Missouri Writers Guild Award in journalism and a fellowship from the New York Herald Tribune, allowing him to travel to post-World War II Japan, Korea and Philippines to report on conditions there. Walt left the paper to pursue his dream--running his own paper. He pioneered two weeklies, The Maverick (of Excelsior) and The Wayzata News. A true renaissance man-- Walt's interests and talents included art, travel, birding, story-telling, pranks, tennis, music, figure skating, writing, history, baseball, football, genealogy and theatre. All of which he shared generously with his family and community. Walt's life modeled the integrity and decency he wished for the world.

Walt is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Penny; daughters, Nancy Johnson-Highfill (Dean), Judy Johnson Bouts (Richard); son, Walter Johnson (Annie) and nine grandchildren. Joseph Nicholas Boyer  Age 85, of Deephaven. Born May 3, 1923 in Wadena, MN and died peacefully on Aug. 1, 2008 surrounded by his family. Joe was the youngest of three children and graduated from Wadena High School. Served in the 94th Naval Construction Battalion during WWII. In 1945 Joe married Eileen Goeden and settled in Deephaven, MN, where they raised six children and developed their building construction business. Joe took pride in passing on his carpentry skills to others. He was a building contractor for approximately 40 years before retiring.

In retirement, Joe and Eileen were great gardeners and loved to host family gatherings until Eileen passed away in December of 2007. Joe was a founding member of St. Therese Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #259. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Mathilda Boyer and brother, Richard Boyer. Survived by children, Peter (Corlea), Joleen (Rob) Roy, Bob (Nancy), John (Joanne), Joseph (Monica) and Paul Boyer; 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Kern of Wadena, MN; many nieces & nephews.
