Kellogg was born Jan. 5, 1915 in Minneapolis. He and both of his younger twin brothers (Keith and Kermit) attended Minnehaha Academy. He was vice -president of his junior class and named "most dignified". His senior year he attended Pillsbury Military Academy in Owatonna MN. After graduation he started working for his father Eng Olson in the wholesale produce business (Eng Olson Fruit Company). He attended Macalester College for 2 years and returned to the family business. Kelly met Maxine in 1934 and they married in 1939. Upon his father's death in 1941 the company was sold and he became a produce buyer for Red Owl Food Stores. He later became a produce broker and in 1960 started his own company (Kellogg Company) headquartered in his home in St. Louis Park, MN. Potatoes were the Kellogg Company specialty and his customers included wholesalers, french fry and potato chip companies, canners and dehydrated products. Through his business he developed many life long friendships. Bruce took over the business in 1980 allowing Kelly and Maxine to winter with many special friends in Naples, FL and summer at the Bay Lake cabin with Carol Ann's family, with visits from Dick's family. The Kellogg Company continues today under the ownership of a former customer. He loved spending time entertaining on his boats on Bay Lake, Lake Minnetonka, and the coast of Florida. He was an active Rotarian, Shriner, Mason and Jester. In later life he discovered the joys of his Mac (Apple) computer printing pictures, greeting cards, and staying connected through email. We cannot say enough about his care and devotion to Maxine. He asked many times to be with his bride. He is with her now. Diane R. Stave, Age 68, a retired high school teacher, passed away peacefully with family at her home in Minneapolis on September 30, 2011. Diane battled a rare cancer, Leiomyosarcoma, for over ten years. She was seen as an inspiration to clinicians, family, and friends for her approach to living during that ten-year period.
Diane was born April 12, 1943 and raised on the farm her grandparents homesteaded near New Effington, SD. All four of her grandparents emigrated to the U.S. from Norway in the late 1890s. Her parents were Ted and Josie (Haugen) Stave, and they farmed on the Stave homestead until the death of her father. She was proud of her heritage and the way of life growing up on a farm, whether it be playing with friends in the prairie grass as a child or driving a grain truck to the elevator. Her paternal grandfather was a founding member of the Ferkingstad Church that had as its goal the teachings of the Lutheran faith. Later in life Ferkingstad merged with other rural churches to form a new church which is now Faith Lutheran in New Effington, SD.
She attended rural school near her farm, Oak Grove high school in Fargo, ND, and graduated high school at Sisseton, SD. She attended college at North Dakota State and Moorhead State to obtain her teaching degree and later a Masters Degree in Special Education. She had a few initial teaching stops including Kerkoven, MN, and Kennedy, MN, but eventually settled in Blue Earth, MN in 1975. She taught at the high school in Blue Earth for 25 years. As an English or Special Education teacher, her goal was to provide her students with the tools and confidence to succeed in life.
She is survived by her son, Jay, and daughter-in-law Kara, of Minneapolis, brother Roderick (Joyce) of Park Rapids, MN, nephews Rick of Moorhead, MN, and Mark of Portland, OR, and niece, Melodee Stave Waite, of Burbank, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
